BIG NEWS: After twice losing out, Bristol is to submit its third bid for European Green Capital title

Thursday, 26 July 2012
Last month, the South West’s regional capital Bristol missed out for the second time in its bid to be crowned European Green Capital 2014, losing out to Danish Capital Copenhagen. It was their second unsuccessful attempt having also lost out in 2010.

While the judges were very positive about Bristol’s 2014 bid commenting that Bristol is “leading the way for cities in the UK”, they did state in their verdict deliberations that “further improvements could still be made, especially in areas such as water consumption”.

Today, via their Twitter account, the bid team announced they would be immediately bidding again, for the 2015 title.

While of course I wholeheartedly support Bristol's aspirations for European Green Capital status, I do fear it may be a little too soon in light of the improvements that were identified by the judges.

But who knows, perhaps it will be third time lucky for Bristol?

UPDATE: 27/07, 11am
The news has clearly been welcomed by the European Commission team who handle the Green Capital award since a short while ago they posted this response via Twitter:
